More and more American kitchens have a large calendar screen on the wall. What those screens do, whether you can buy them outside the US, and how to get the same with a tablet.
Short answer: Skylight and Hearth are made for the United States. In the Netherlands, Skylight is only sold by third-party sellers on Amazon.nl. We didn't find Hearth at a Dutch retailer. A tablet with a family calendar app does the main thing too: the week and the month at a glance, on the counter or on the wall.
First, a disclosure: Saam is our own app. What we write about Skylight and Hearth comes from their own sites and from Amazon.nl, viewed on 16 October 2026. Availability and features change.

An American touchscreen calendar that shows the family schedule all day. The Skylight Plus subscription adds a photo screensaver, meal planning, rewards for kids and Magic Import, which turns forwarded emails, PDFs and photos of lists into calendar items. There is also a 27-inch Calendar Max. In the Netherlands, the 15-inch model is only listed by third-party sellers on Amazon.nl. Suits: anyone who wants a dedicated screen. With an imported device, check the plug and the warranty. Source: Skylight, Amazon.nl

What you need: a tablet, a stand or wall mount, and a calendar app that can stay open all day. Keep the tablet on the charger, and in the tablet's settings turn auto-lock off or set it to the longest option.
A screen in the kitchen shows what has already been entered. Someone still has to think of it and put it in, and in most families that is always the same person. Skylight makes that a little lighter with Magic Import, if you have Plus. Saam makes the entering itself as small as possible: you say what's going on, and the rest happens. More on this: why a shared calendar doesn't share the mental load.
Is Skylight sold in the Netherlands?
Not through an official Dutch shop. On 16 October 2026 the 15-inch Skylight Calendar was only listed by third-party sellers on Amazon.nl.
Does Skylight have a subscription?
Yes. Skylight Plus adds a photo screensaver, meal planning, rewards for kids and Magic Import, which turns emails and photos of lists into calendar items, among other things.
Can I use a tablet as a family calendar in the kitchen?
Yes. Put a tablet on a stand or on the wall, keep it on the charger and turn auto-lock off or set it to the longest option. With Google or Apple Calendar you see what's already in it. With Saam it becomes a large monthly schedule that fills itself with what anyone says or types.
Is a tablet a good alternative to Skylight?
For most families, yes. A tablet you already have shows the week and the month just as well, and with Saam the calendar fills itself. If you really want a dedicated screen with a photo screensaver, Skylight is the better fit.
