Cozi, Klender or Saam? The differences side by side

Three family apps often mentioned in the same breath, but they solve different things. Short answer first, then the details with sources.

Short answer: Cozi and Klender are shared family calendars with lists, where everyone enters their own appointments. Choose Klender if you want a Dutch-language calendar, and Cozi if English is fine and you want the recipe box. Saam has a family calendar too, but it fills itself: you say what needs doing, and Saam turns it into complete tasks, divides them and puts them in the calendar, in WhatsApp and in the calendar you already have.

First, a disclosure: Saam is our own app. Everything about Cozi and Klender comes from their own App Store page, viewed on 8 October 2026. Prices and features change.

Cozi

A family organizer from the United States with a shared calendar with a colour per family member, reminders, shopping and to-do lists, and a recipe box tied to meal planning. According to the App Store page, Cozi Gold (from €34.99 a year) removes the ads, shows the calendar more than 30 days ahead and adds a birthday tracker and a month view on the phone. The app is English only. Suits: families who are fine with English and want one place for calendar, lists and recipes. Source: App Store

Klender

A Dutch family calendar from Klender B.V. with a colour per family member, shared task and shopping lists, a shared address book and a birthday calendar. You can ask a family member to confirm an appointment and tick off who drops off and who picks up. Appointments from another calendar, such as Google Calendar, can be shown in it. Free to download, with a family contribution of €2.95 a month or €29.95 a year. Suits: families who want a Dutch calendar where everyone keeps track of their own things. Source: App Store

Saam

Our own app. You say or type what's going on, such as "Sophie has judo on Friday and we're almost out of nappies". Saam turns it into complete tasks with a date and the details, divides them across whoever has the least on their plate that day, and delivers them in WhatsApp and your calendar (Google directly, Apple and Outlook through a link). A photo of a school letter or a forwarded email becomes appointments, with the source attached. Free for now. Suits: anyone who wants to be rid of the thinking and the passing along, not just share the overview. The app has a family calendar with the week and the month, and on a tablet it becomes a large monthly schedule you can put in the kitchen. Suits less: anyone who wants points and rewards for the children; Saam doesn't have those. Source: App Store

The real difference

A shared calendar shows what has already been thought of. Someone still has to think of the PE kit, put it in the app and keep track of whether it happens. In most families that is always the same person. Cozi and Klender make that work visible; Saam tries to take it over. Saam has a family calendar of its own, but you can also use it alongside Klender or Cozi. More on this: why a shared calendar doesn't share the mental load.
