FamilyWall does a lot, but not everyone wants everything in one app, or to pay for calendar sync. Here are six alternatives, grouped by why you're looking.
Short answer: if you want a Dutch family calendar, choose Klender. If you don't want to pay anything, use a shared Google or Apple calendar with Bring! or Listonic for groceries. If you want someone to take over thinking of and dividing tasks, look at Saam.
First, a disclosure: Saam is our own app, so it is in the list. Everything about the other apps comes from their own App Store page or from the source given, viewed on 8 October 2026.
FamilyWall is an all-in-one family app. The shared calendar, tasks, shopping lists, recipes, messages, a photo gallery and contacts are free. Premium (€4.99 a month or €39.99 a year) includes budget, meal planner, documents, location sharing with arrival and departure alerts, and syncing with Google Calendar and Outlook. FamilyWall can now also pull appointments out of an email. The app is available in Dutch and has 4.7 stars from 2,900 ratings. Source: App Store
| App | Cost | Focus | Dutch |

| Cozi | Free with ads, Gold from €34.99 a year | Calendar, lists, recipes | No |
| Google or Apple Calendar | Free | Shared calendar | Yes |
| Bring! or Listonic | Free, Premium from €0.99 a month | Shopping list | Yes |
| Heima | Free, with Premium | Chores, routines, points | See App Store |
| Saam | Free for now | Thinking of it, dividing and delivering | Yes |
The closest to FamilyWall, but smaller and Dutch. A shared calendar with a colour per family member, shared lists, an address book and a birthday calendar. You can show appointments from Google Calendar in it. Free to download, with a family contribution of €2.95 a month or €29.95 a year. Suits: anyone who wants the same kind of app, but simpler. Calendar, lists and a recipe box, in English only. The free version has ads and shows the calendar up to 30 days ahead; Cozi Gold (from €34.99 a year) lifts that. Suits: anyone who doesn't mind English and mainly wants to plan meals and recipes. Source: App Store
Free, and you probably have it already. With Google, a family group automatically gets a "Family" calendar (source: Google); with Apple you share a calendar through iCloud (source: iCulture). Suits: anyone who mainly used FamilyWall for the calendar.
If the shopping list was the only thing you really used. Bring! makes a list per supermarket (Premium €1.99 a month), Listonic groups by store department (from €0.99 a month). Suits: anyone who wants one thing done well. Source: App Store (Bring!), App Store (Listonic)
An app for chores and routines in which children earn points for finished tasks, with an AI assistant since April 2026 that lets you speak or type something (source: Emerce). Free, with Premium. Suits: families with children you want to motivate with points and routines. Source: App Store
Our own app, and a different kind of alternative: a family calendar that fills itself. You say or type what's going on, Saam turns it into complete tasks, divides them across whoever has the least on their plate that day, and delivers them in WhatsApp and your own calendar (Google directly, Apple and Outlook through a link). A photo of a school letter or a forwarded email becomes appointments. The app shows the family calendar by week and month, and on a tablet a large monthly schedule for the kitchen. Free for now. Suits: families where FamilyWall is on everyone's phone but one person enters everything. Suits less: anyone looking for budget, documents or location sharing; Saam doesn't do those. What is a good alternative to FamilyWall?
It depends on why you want to leave. If you want a Dutch family calendar, Klender is the most similar. If you don't want to pay anything, a shared Google or Apple calendar with a shopping list like Bring! or Listonic will do. If you want the thinking of and dividing of tasks taken over rather than just tracked, Saam fits.
What is in the free version of FamilyWall and what isn't?
According to the App Store page, calendar, tasks, shopping lists, recipes, messages and photos are free. Budget, meal planner, documents, location sharing and syncing with Google Calendar and Outlook belong to Premium, at €4.99 a month or €39.99 a year.
Is there a free FamilyWall alternative that works with Google Calendar?
Yes. Google Calendar itself has a free family calendar for everyone in your Google family group. Saam is free for now and puts tasks and appointments straight into Google Calendar, and through a calendar link into Apple Calendar and Outlook.
